We are both Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs). We are owners and founders of GMS Professional Corporation, a firm that provides accounting, consulting and tax advisory services to professionals and businesses. We started our business in 2012 and over the years, we have watched the business grow as we expand our team and our client base. Today, when people look at us and our business from the outside, they admire the success we've created over these years. What most don't realize is that it was not always like this for us. We battled many challenges to stay in business, we found ways to keep moving even when we wanted to quit.
You may have heard from many gurus out there that starting your own business is easy. It is your path to freedom. It is your path to being your own boss, etc. While these may be true, it is not the whole truth. They are omitting a lot of other important truths when it comes to running your business.
And in our world, a half truth is a whole lie.
The simple truth is this, starting and running your own business is hard. Just consider this, why would 70% of all new businesses fail within the first 10 years of starting if business was easy? So, it's obvious that running a business hard. Thankfully, we know this because we've lived it. In fact, we're living it every day and have been doing so for the last 8 years. And here is the important thing we've learned:
Business is hard if you're not prepared for the business you're creating. If you prepare by building the right mindset, learning the language of business, investing in your personal development and investing in the right business coach and mentor, then business is not as hard.
And this is why we're running this 5 days of training for you. We want to prepare you for success in your business by providing you with the knowledge and tools you need to build an amazing business. We believe that the opportunity provided by the Government with the new $220+ million in loans to support Black Entrepreneurs is great for our community. The last thing we want is for businesses to get these loans, invest in their businesses and then fail in a few months or in a few short years. Business failure has a devastating impact, not only for the business owners but more importantly for others that could have been employed by the business or those that benefit from doing business with you. The economic impact of business failure is so significant that we want to change this.
So, we're excited you're joining us. We look forward to hosting you during these 5 days of training. Following this event, we hope you can join us as we build a solid network of Black Business Owners. A network designed to provide the best-in-class training, coaching and mentoring designed to keep us in business, providing value to our clients and our community.
